The Many Forms of Agnosia 

Below are just a few forms of the many types of agnosia that can occur due to damage to the biran. Each one deals with the three main types: Visual, Auditory, and Tactile Agnosia. 

Phonoagnosia is the inability to recognize voices that are framiliar, but the person is still able to understand language.  

Autotopagnosia is the inability to recognize parts of one's own body.

Asterognosis is the inabliltiy to recognize an object by touch becuase they cannot identify its weight, size or texture, but they are able to describe it or draw out a picture of the object.

Prosopagnosia is the inability to recognze faces that is caused form damage to the fusiform face area (the area of the brain that is able to recognize faces.) 

Mirror Image Agnosia is Prosopagnosia for the self image.

Apperceptive Visual Agnosia is the inability to distinguish between shapes. They are also unable to reproduce drawn copies of the objects 

Pure alexia is the inability to understand written word, but still retain the ability to understand speech and word perception.

Associative Visual Agnosia is when one fails to recognize objects, but can still describe and draw a copy of it. 

Socio-emotional or Emotive Agnosia is the inability to understand facial expression and body language.
