Currently there is no cure for agnosia, instead treatment is based on helping the patients and their families cope cope with the dramatic change in day-to-day life. A new approach to coping with Agnosia is using other senses to perceive and understand unframiliar stimuli. For example, if the pateint has a form of visual agnosia treatment would center around learning how to use the other senses, taste, touch, hearing, and smell, in order to understand what was once framiliar to them, but due to brain damage no longer is.
Framiliarity is key in dealing with agnosia as well. Pateints still retain memory, so having their environment remain the same can help them to navigate themsleves even if they are unable to perceive those surroundings.
Learnig to live with agnosia of any kind will be a huge lifestyle change for patient and family alike. It mean having to leave a job, or not being able to live on their own anymore, or even not knowing who their family members are.
